Avoid Scuba Diving Risk by full scuba diving course

In the beginner open water diving course, the risks of the sport are discussed in a high-level overview, but Mr. Bradford, a diving instructor trainer and technical instructor believes the details should be made more graphic so the students will understand the dangers.

“Some of the agencies promote scuba diving as a fun, safe sport that everyone can enjoy, but I don’t think it’s the truth and is misleading,” Mr. Bradford told.

Mr. Padulo died April 6, 2006 while attempting to complete his third open water dive, with the Barracuda Scuba Club, in the Petawawa River. About 20 minutes into the dive, he became separated from his team and was seen in a distressed state down river. His body was recovered three days later, about 40 metres from shore.

In Mr. Bradford’s opinion, the questionnaire should be provided after the students hear more about the risks.

Although the recent trend has been to shorten scuba diving courses to allow people to take them on weekends, he believes courses should actually be extended to allow students to learn the material over a prolonged period, which would allow for repetition of skills, especially assembling and disassembling equipment.
